A stock picker, also known as an order picker is a machinery which is quite similar to a forklift. It allows the driver to utilize forks to raise a pallet. An order picker is also capable of lifting the operator up to higher shelves for picking certain items, and this feature is something the lift truck does not provide. Typically, order pickers are powered by electricity. These type of equipment are mainly utilized in a warehouse setting. Usually they are used for transporting pallets and doing certain jobs in the shelving and stocking department.
The order picker operator utilizes controls to control the unit from a platform setting that usually sits fairly close to the ground. The operator can direct the machinery to go backwards, forwards or steer it from side to side. Once the operator has positioned the unit in place the blades can be lifted up to the required level that makes it really convenient for the operator. Like for instance, if the required materials, are located on a shelf which the operator cannot reach, then whole platform could be lifted up to certain level. Due to the counterweight situated at the other end, the unit remains balanced, even at higher levels.
The platform is lowered back to its original position after the order has been picked. The order picker is then directed or driven to its next location. With most models, it is possible to move the order picker whilst the platform is raised, although, several businesses might have policies and procedures in place preventing such maneuvers in the name of safety. An order picker can also place pallets on a shelf. Stackers and forklifts could be utilized to complete these particular jobs at some companies instead.
